FAQs

What is barre?

Barre is a low impact, full body workout that fuses yoga, Pilates, strength training and isometric exercises to work every major muscle group. Inspired by ballet, each workout includes exercises at the barre and on the mat. Breath is used to connect mind and body throughout class. For dedicated barre clients, results include an increase in flexibility, lengthening and strengthening of the muscles, a longer and leaner physique and a deeper connection between the mind and body.

Can I participate pre/post pregnancy? Is it safe?

Barre is safe and effective for any body. Our instructors are trained to offer modifications throughout class. We encourage you to let your instructor know of pregnancy or any physical disabilities, injuries, or surgeries. Always consult your physician before taking our classes during and after pregnancy and/or post surgery or injury.

What do I need to bring to class?

Your hydration, barre/grip socks, (available to purchase in studio), and yourself! We provide mats and all other necessary equipment.

Do I need a dance background? I’m not flexible.

There is absolutely zero experience needed as long as you bring your willingness to move and be challenged! Our instructors are not only trained to offer modifications but also to offer advancements. We encourage every client to move within her/his own body and within the present moment. With dedication you will see a transformation.

MARISSA BERTOLLI
OWNER / INSTRUCTOR

Marissa is a lifelong fitness lover and was first introduced to barre in 2009. After many years as a dedicated barre client, Marissa wanted to take her passion for barre to the next level and became a certified barre instructor in January 2019. The equal but opposing forces in barre are what have always attracted her to this workout. One of her favorite aspects of barre is the mental and physical connection it forges, challenging mind and body to work together. With a background in music, Marissa loves finding the perfect songs to inspire her clients to be present in the moment and get the most out of every class. Outside of the studio, Marissa is the owner of Great Atlantic Real Estate and a practicing attorney. Marissa co-founded sandbarre in 2021 and lives in Marshfield with her husband Paul, their three children, and Yorkie, Vinny.
